I’ve tried using my HyperJar card in a few normal shops and for some online payments, and it just gets declined for no obvious reason. Like, the same places take my other cards without any issue, so I don’t really get what’s going on. It’s especially frustrating when you’re standing at the till and it just… doesn’t work. For me it hasn’t felt reliable at all

"Fees added up a bit too much"
I wasn’t really thrilled with the fees. They seemed to pile up faster than I expected, and half the time I wasn’t totally sure what I was being charged for. I’m sure it might work fine for some people, but I was just looking for a simple app, and the extra charges kind of made me not want to keep using it

I raised a complaint with HyperJar after an issue on my account, and it just felt like nobody really took ownership of it.
Replies were slow, and when they did come through, they were mostly the same copy-and-paste messages telling me to wait. I had to keep chasing and explaining the same thing over and over, which made the whole situation even more frustrating, especially because a lot of it felt preventable.

In the end, it didn’t feel properly resolved, more like it was just closed off. Maybe other people have had a better experience, but mine was poor, and I wouldn’t feel confident trusting them again

"Why offer a card that barely works?"
I really wanted HyperJar to be useful, but the merchant compatibility is all over the place and it’s infuriating. One shop will take it with no problem, then the next totally normal store or online checkout declines it for no clear reason. That’s not on me — if you’re offering a payment card, it should actually work where people need to use it.

It completely defeats the point of budgeting when I’m standing there wondering if the card is going to embarrass me at the till. I ended up reaching for my regular bank card most of the time because I couldn’t trust HyperJar, so what was the point? They need to sort this out instead of leaving customers to deal with the hassle.

"Wish I hadn’t bothered with the family account"
I signed up for HyperJar mostly because the family account features sounded like they’d make things easier, but I wish I’d spent more time checking it out first. Setting up jars for the kids was more confusing than I expected, and a few things didn’t seem to update the way I thought they would, which made it feel like extra work instead of a helpful tool.

I also regretted assuming the controls would be more flexible. I couldn’t manage everything from one place as easily as I wanted, and for a busy family setup it just felt clunky. It might be fine for simple spending, but it didn’t really work for us, so I deleted it after a couple of weeks

The kids card side of things has been more annoying than I expected. Setting spending limits and checking what’s been spent feels clunky, and my kid got confused when some payments didn’t show up right in the app. I reached out to support too, but they were slow getting back to me. Maybe it’s fine for other families, but for managing kids’ money, I was hoping it’d be way simpler

"Card kept freezing at the worst times"
From what I remember, using hyperjar was more stressful than it should’ve been because my card kept freezing right when I needed it. It wasn’t just a one-off either, which is what made it so frustrating.

I had it happen in shops and when trying to pay online, and each time I ended up opening the app to check if I’d done something wrong. Looking back, it felt like I couldn’t fully trust the card to work when I needed it.

Support took a while to get back to me and I don’t remember them really sorting the issue properly. i wouldn’t go through that again, I just want a card that works when I tap it.

"Payments can take ages to update"
HyperJar is fine for basic spending, but the payment updates have been really frustrating for me. I’ve had a few transactions take ages to show properly, which makes it hard to know what I’ve actually got left to spend. Sometimes it updates quickly, and other times it just feels completely random. I did contact support, but it felt like they were putting it back on me somehow, like I’d done something wrong, instead of just acknowledging the delay. It’s not the worst app, but I expected it to be a lot smoother.

I thought the partner rewards were going to be a nice perk, but most of the offers feel super limited and not really useful for me. It’s kind of the same thing with rewards programs in general — they always sound better than they actually are. Disappointing overall

Sometimes the money went through fine, other times it took longer than I expected and I was left wondering what was happening.
